LE THADEE

On the gentle slopes spreading across the bucolic countryside of Montefalco, Umbria, the young estate of Le Thadee grows their Sagrantino, Sangiovese, Grechetto, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Trebbiano Spoletino grapes, which are united by both a cultivation that fully respects the environment and an appropriate harvest rigorously done by hand. The young farming and wine-making team of Le Thadee, which will be certified organic starting with the 2022 vintage, are also "custodians" of a rare Trebbiano Spoletino prephylloxera vineyard (120+years), which has about sixty ungrafted vines that grow trained-up elm with living trees supporting the vines. Yet even their young vines for their Trebbiano Spoletino as well as their red Montefalco wines are earning them accolades in major international competitions, most recently a Gold Medal in Mundus Vini 2021 Biofach and Silver from Decanter World Wine Awards 2021 for their “Fijoa”, an aged-on-the-lees Trebbiano Spoletino. We are impressed by the character and freshness that all their bottlings offer.

At the helm of Le Thadee are owner Alessia Natali and oenologist Elisa Martelli, who have worked the 7 ha. property organically since this young estate’s inception in 2018. Originally from Tuscany, Elisa joined Le Thadee’s team when the project was just taking shape. Her profession took her often abroad where she has always tried to treasure every small and big suggestion received. She writes about oenology for specialized newspapers and is an international WSET sommelier. She also acts as a judge in oenological contests and is an expert taster of extra virgin olive oils. Crazy in love with her job and afflicted by great oenological curiosity, she is in charge of creating Le Thadee’s wines, using recipes made of love, respect of Umbrian traditions and innovation. As for Alessia, she grew up in a family where making wine was a yearly call, as vines were considered a fundamental part of what was cultivated in the small plot that surrounded her grandparents’ home. In 2018, when Le Thadee acquired the estate in Montefalco, she was already involved in the family’s olive oil production, and her experience has been growing from there, vintage after vintage. A passionate advocate of sustainability and being very hands-on, she leads the company with a focus on the territory, its people and, obviously, the vines and the grapes they give us. She is proud of being part of Montefalco's great winemaking tradition.
