ALBERT MANN

One of only eight 3-star rated domaines in Alsace by Revue du Vin de France, which also awarded the estate Winemakers of the Year of France in 2012, each year The Wine Advocate and Vinous place the wines of Domaine Albert Mann in the top tier of Alsace producers.

The Domaine Albert Mann is the union of two families, Mann and Barthelmé, both lines of vignerons which date back to the 17th century. They have been cultivating all of Alsace’s noble grape varieties across 25 hectares and seven Grands Crus. Each small vineyard parcel is a true island of geological diversity, allowing every wine to express its own distinct personality.

Certified organic and practicing biodynamic viticulture for over 30 years, this approach has long been a natural choice for the estate. With meticulously controlled yields, the family seeks grapes of perfect ripeness and depth. From Riesling to Gewürztraminer, through their expressive Grands Crus and refined Sélections de Grains Nobles, the wines consistently display purity, balance, and precision, never heavy, always vibrant and full of life.

We began with this illustrious domaine in January of 1989 by a chance visit to the then tiny cellars in Wettolsheim. Since that time, the domaine has grown in reputation to be considered one of the greatest in Alsace, and indeed all of France, particularly for their extraordinary Pinot Noirs.  In 2024, the family tradition grew stronger with Antoine Barthelmé leading this estate into a new chapter after his father Jacky's retirement. Antoine's deep passion for plants, soil and nature began in his youth and continued through formal viticulture school in Beaune with his final internship under Anne-Claude Leflaive in Puligny-Montrachet, experience of winemaking and vineyard management with Alphonse Mellot family in Sancerre, a year in New Zealand's Wanaka valley at Rippon Estate as a Cellar hand with Nick Mills, apprenticeship with the Derencourts Consultant in Bordeaux, and 3 years as Vineyard Manager at George Noellat's domaine in Vosne-Romanée. The new generation has arrived at Domaine Albert Mann and the future looks extremely bright.
